Symmetry for Ruddington’s High Street

For the past couple of years there have been rather more businesses on one side of Ruddington’s main shopping street than the other, thanks to one or two departing traders and some major shop redevelopment work at the former Barclay & Cook store.

Now that the last vacant shop unit on the eastern side of High Street is filled – the one previously occupied by Nottingham Building Society – we will get some ‘Symmetry’: not least because that’s the name of the Chiropractic business which will be starting there soon, at number 3-5!

“I have been a chiropractor for nearly a decade, so thought it was time to open my own clinic!” says owner Dr Katie Scorer, who is hoping to be ready to welcome patients from Wednesday 26th January if current renovations go to schedule. “Over the Christmas period, I have been slowly decorating the shop to change it from a bright office to a calm, relaxing place to attend treatment. I am creating two rooms out of the large front room, making a reception and a treatment room. The tradesmen are in now, doing the big jobs, but hopefully they will be finished over the next week.”

Katie herself will be offering chiropractic care in Ruddington. “It’s great to help keep you mobile” she explains. “My family visited chiropractors when I was a child and I was always amazed at how much better they felt. I also though it was such a caring role, where you truly have the time to listen to your patients and make a difference in their lives.” She will also be providing a room rental service at Symmetry Chiropractic to other health and wellbeing therapists, including for acupuncture, counselling and massage.

“Ruddington is already my home” she reveals. “We moved here when I was 8 months pregnant, 3.5 years ago, and I have loved it ever since. It is a wonderful community and it made sense to move my clinic here, as we never want to leave!”

Katie is leaving her practise at The Bay Therapy Centre, in Lady Bay, to concentrate on this new village venture. However, she says she will keep doing one day a week in Southwell, where she has worked for the past five years.

The good news for Wilbur, Ruddington’s most famous feline, is that Katie is a cat lover! When Nottingham Building Society closed its Ruddington branch last year, it was a bit of a ‘cat-astrophe’ for Wilbur, who used to spend most of his days curled up in there. NOW he is being welcomed back…

“I would love for Wilbur to return!” she says. “I found a piece of cat food while renovating, which probably belonged to him, so he can come and claim it if he likes?!”
